ESSENTIALS OF ASTROLOGICAL ANALYSIS

Point Fourteen

TRANSCENDENT POINTING

Uranus in the horoscope charts the release of spirit by which the NATIVE counters the exceptional pressures and disturbances of a modern existence. As the world gets more and more complex he finds it necessary to intensify his own experience in order to maintain any equilibrium between the outer reality and himself, and whenever such an intensification becomes open revolt or a turn to compensating eccentricities the INDICATION of the PLANET is quite destructive. But INDEPENDENCE fundamentally indicates not merely the freedom to act and of necessity to do so badly at times, which is shown by Mars, or the determination to move to an end in view that is charted by the sun. It is much more than the emotional outspilling revealed in the ENTHUSIASM of Jupiter. Here rather is the endeavor of selfhood to give an ultimate account of itself in the newer dimensions of existence, whether for the better or the worse. The irresistible upsurging of relatively transcendental self-discovery, as identified through this SIGNIFICATOR, is an important detail in the measure of an individual's ability to make a place for himself in company with others in a more than provincial fashion.

In spite of the fact that it is one of the only two PLANETS above the horizon in the chart of Prince Charles, Uranus makes no contribution to the general pattern of the life and is important only through the INDICATION of DYNAMIC [407] APTNESS to which attention has just been given. Its major aspects other than the extraordinary close OPPOSITION that determines his potential as a working member of society, and that includes Mars as an intensifying factor in the total CONFIGURATION, are the two SEXTILES of quite subordinate import. The lack of tie with Neptune leaves the department of SIGNIFICANCE without fundamental stress, and shows his rather complete disinterest in the broader meanings of history. While there is considerable likelihood of marked achievement in his life, anything he accomplishes will be because in seeking his own self-fulfillment he will instrument the trends or potentials that advance human affairs. Unquestionably he will strive for stature but there is no messianic inclination in his inherent respect for social service as a simple and effective division of labor. The highly self-centered nature of any ultimate place he may make for himself is shown by the fact that the PLANET of INDEPENDENCE is both RETROGRADE and INTERCEPTED.

For a practical or everyday understanding of the transcendental pointing of selfhood by the prince in the dimensions of today's industrialized and global society, it may be noted that his Uranus lies in the HOUSE of FRIENDSHIP, the SIGN of VIVIFICATION and in a degree symbolized by bathing beauties. In the reduction of this horoscopic formula to a statement that is both accurate insight and simple explanation, in the framework of the over-all perspective, the astrologer may observe that (1) in CIRCUMSTANCES the approach of this NATIVE to any ultimate stature is through an uninhibited insinuation into whatever situations offer the greatest promise of self-fulfillment, (2) in [408] FUNCTION he is inclined to quicken everything around him to greater life or broader realization in the continual rehearsal of his unique self-projection, and (3) in every passing or recurring focus of the moment he will enjoy a frank and open exhibition of the good points of himself and the pleasing features of his experience generally. All this may be summarized by saying that he is gifted with an irresistible fascination of manner and person.

The ELEVENTH HOUSE in any NATIVITY reveals the basic CIRCUMSTANCES of any effective overview of personal potentials, together with whatever visualization or actual planning of the future may be possible by the individual on the one hand and whatever enlistment of support or encouragement for the objectives accepted may prove to be worth while on the other. In the case of Prince Charles the HOUSE contains Uranus, which fact in redoubled measure of the fundamentally unconditioned outreach of self shows the uninhibited naïveté of his projection of himself into significant affairs. The LORD of the ELEVENTH is the strongly dignified Venus that dominates the FOURTH, or the foundation cradling of his life, and in consequence his look to his future through all his years must be in terms of an enhancement of the enduring estate of his heritage in one way or another. The CUSP of the HOUSE lies in the SIGN of INTEGRATION, and a degree symbolized by a mounted Indian with scalp locks, and the INDICATION again is the psychological necessity that this NATIVE consolidate all the values to which he reaches and for which he struggles into the actual substance of himself. It can be said that nothing remains of much interest to him except as he rides high and handsome with trophies of achievement.
